Hello everyone!

I would like to invite you for a weekend trip to South Bohemia. This part of the Czech Republic has the lowest population density, the cleanest environment and a plenty of cute small towns and castles.

More specifically, we’ll explore the CHKO Třeboňsko (The Třeboň Protected Landscape Area) which is a lowland dotted with smaller and larger fish ponds, lakes and rivers around the pretty historical town of Třeboň.

Třeboňsko is great for cycling. It is almost entirely flat, and there is an abundance of quiet country lanes and designated cycling trails.

We will spend the Saturday cycling and the Sunday little bit of cycling and then sightseeing in Třeboň.

Bicycle rental

You don’t need to have a bicycle to join this event. You can rent one from Ceske drahy for cca 400 CZK/2 days. They provide decent hybrid bikes, ideal for our trip. For a photo click here. To rent a helmet costs additional 25 CZK.

We will meet at 8:00 am on Saturday June 20 at the Prague Main Railway Station. See the picture below.

The train ride to South Bohemia takes just under two hours.

After arrival, we will first pick up the rental bikes and then set off on roughly 50 km long ride in the picturesque and mostly flat countryside of the Třebonsko region.

For the night, we will stay in a campsite by a nice lake, in comfortable new cabins, each for 5 people. The campsite has shared bathrooms in the main building.

In the morning, after having breakfast and (optional) swim in the lake we’ll hit the road for about 25 km ride to Třeboň. We will first return the rental bikes and then set off to explore this beautiful historical town on foot. And for lunch you can try a local delicacy – Carp fries!

Return to Prague is planned on Sunday at 8:30 pm. As always, a delay is possible. I recommend not to plan anything important for the Sunday night.

DIFFICULTY: Easy to Medium

About 80 km of cycling in 2 days, no hills!

Sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent (there are mosquitoes around the ponds) and bathing suit/swimming trunks, towel, toiletries, pyjamas, spare T-shirt, a fleece for the night.

Pack light, because you’ll need to carry your belongings on the bike.
