Part Six: Týnec n. Sázavou to Pikovice

The weir at Podělusy has a shoot for canoes.
Part Six is like a cherry on the cake of our 6-part journey on the Sázava. Between Týnec and Pikovice, the river flows through deep valleys and canyons, it is narrower and runs faster. The riverbed is rocky and there are frequent rapids.
You will surely make use of the canoeing skills you learnt during the five previous trips!
This section is too long and bumpy for first-time canoers!
DIFFICULTY: Medium to Difficult
(depending on the water level)
About 17 km / 10.5 miles. There are 7 weirs and some rapids.
Please note: This trip is not suitable for first-time canoers!
LOGISTICS
We will meet at 8:00 AM in front of the main ticket office at the Prague Main Railway Station.
We’ll be aiming to be back in Prague by 19:00. However, we will be as fast as the slowest members of our group and an unexpected delay is possible. This is a full-day event.
What to bring with you
Shoes to wear in water (sandals, or you can buy special shoes for walking in water), wear clothes which dry fast (NOT jeans), sunscreen, spare T-shirt, trousers and underwear (in case your canoe capsizes), towel, swimwear if you are brave, bottle of water and a small snack. Put all your staff to a small compact bag – we will put all our belongings into water-proof barrels and they are not very large.
Since dropping my phone in the river and losing my glasses during capsizing, I’ve been recommending everyone to keep their phone in a waterproof case and having glasses on a string while on the boat.
