Hello Discovereres!
You’re cordially invited to a new two-day on-foot crossing of the Krkonoše Mountains.
This time, we are going to traverse the mountains from north to south, from the Polish town of Szklarska Poręba, to Špindlerův Mlýn on the Czech side.
This route does NOT include Mt. Sněžka, the highest point of the Czech Republic, and it is easier than the trip last year.
Nevertheless, you still need to be in good shape for this “easier” trip. Please read the difficulty info below.
On the first day, we will explore the Polish side of the mountains around Szklarska Poręba, a lovely mountain resort town.
For the night, we will stay in a mountain chalet at 1260 m. a.s.l. The accommodation will include Sunday breakfast.
On the second day we will start on the ridge trail and later descend to the charming Labský důl, a glacial valley leading to Špindlerův Mlýn, the most renown mountain resort of the Czech side of the Krkonoše.
Meeting on Saturday at 8:00 at Černý most Bus Station
Expected return: Sunday at 20:00, Černý most Bus Station
(Good health and physical fitness is necessary)
This 2-day trek will involve 30 km of hiking and ascending some 1100 vertical metres (3600 ft). On top of that, you will need to maintain a good hiking speed to complete the route in the allocated time.
See the altitude profile of the route in the picture below:
Sturdy hiking shoes, windproof/waterproof jacket, hat (to protect you from sun and/or wind), sun screen, pyjamas/comfortable clothes for sleeping, toiletries.
Do NOT bring a sleeping bag.
The trip will go ahead in all weather conditions, unless a safety warning is issued by the mountain rescue service. Please dress appropriately.
The price includes round trip bus and train transport, the entry fee to the Karkonosze National Park, accommodation in shared dorms (reserved just for our group, bedding provided) and Sunday breakfast.
